Volvo V90 is all set to return as the flagship Wagon of the company after it was discontinued in 1998 after just 2 years on automotive market. Launch of 2017 Volvo V90 was confirmed by Swedish auto manufacturer and its design was revealed, thanks to some of its leaked photos. It is almost a station wagon variant of S90, which was launched recently. Since Volvo has already revealed a lot of details about S90, speculating about V90 becomes a lot easier.
2017 Volvo V90: Unique Feature
By unveiling the S90, Volvo also revealed almost half of design of V90. Both these cars will be identical between B-pillars and nose. There is currently no information about the appearance of rear section of this vehicle. However, it is expected that V90 will stay true to new styling of Volvo; therefore it should look a lot like XC90.
It has been confirmed that 2017 Volvo V90 will continue to use the traditional tail lights from Volvo, which extend upward on tailgate. Having said that, this large wagon will be a significant change over previous model, as it will be replacing the boxy design with a sporty roof section and raked rear windscreen. If you like old-school vehicles, you might be disappointed by modern and sporty design of this wagon. Also, this new design will alter trunk space of this model.
Interior of V90, just like its exterior, will be based on S90 model. Both rear and front passenger compartment will be a lot identical as far as equipment and styling is concerned. This means that 2017 Volvo V90 will have the same dashboard as S90, which has large wood accents. Apart from that, there will be vertical AC vents, a tall center console and a tablet like touchscreen. With excellent finish and fit, there will be an overall luxurious feel to its cabin. To sum it up, V90 will be very fancy even though it is a wagon.
Leg space and head space shall remain same for rear seat passengers, but luggage room will increase significantly because of wagon configuration. Rear seat is foldable, which means cargo room can be increased even more. This makes the V90 both a luxurious and a practical wagon.
2017 Volvo V90: Drivetrain
2017 Volvo V90 should be using same drivetrain as XC90 and S90, as it also uses the same architecture. This means that this wagon will be having 2.0 gasoline, 2.0 diesels and one hybrid engine. Turbocharged T5 is a part of gasoline range along with supercharged and turbocharged V6. While T5 generates 254 HP and 258 lb. ft. of torque, the T6 unit generates 316 HP and 295 lb. ft. of torque.
Diesel lineup includes a 195 HP unit with 295 lb. ft. of torque along with the D5, which generates 316 HP and 295 lb. ft. of torque. V90 is also available with T8 hybrid, which is a combination of a 2 liter unit and an 80 HP electric motor. This combination generates 400 HP and 472 lb. ft. of torque.
